The Ecurie Ecosse transporter, based on a Comner bus chassis, was pupose built in 1959/60 by Alexander of Falkirk. The vehicle immortalised by Corgi’s die-cast toy, was powered by an unusual 3 cylinder, 2-stroke supercharged diesel engine, which had 6 horizontally opposed pistons, producing about 90 bhp.
The transporter was designed to carry 3 D-Type Jaguars, spares and mechanics swiftly and in relative comfort to circuits throughout Europe, and had a large 60 gallon fuel tank giving a range of 1000 miles.
After 6 years of service with Ecurie Ecosse the transporter was sold to Neil Corner, who used it extensively, it then passed to his mechanic Tony Merrick whop sold it to Jaguar enthusiast Campbell McLaren; Roger Ludgate then took over the ownership and started to restore the vehicle. In 1992 E.E. collector, Dick Skipworth purchased the partially dismantled truck and commissioned Jaguar specialists Lynx to restore it. It is once again transporting Ecurie Ecosse Jaguars throughout Europe, but this time to historic events.
