On January 1st 1942 Oldsmobile Motor Works officially became Oldsmobile Division of General Motors. The B44 marked the 44th year of Oldsmobile production and the ‘B’ stood for ‘Better Built’, thus the nomenclature did not allude to aircraft production as is sometimes thought, although ‘fuselage fenders’ were billed as part of the design. The split front bumper styling divided both grill and opinion.
