Introduced in 1960 as an additional model in the DB4 range, 19 chassis were dispatched to Zagato of Milan who designed and constructed lightweight bodywork, 350lb lighter than the original car. These models were constructed at Newport Pagnell, without bumpers and with Perspex side and rear windows. The six cylinder 3.7 litre engines were upgraded and tuned to produce 315 bhp at 6000 rpm and larger non servo brakes fitted all round. Three entries were made for the 1961 Le Mans, the two Essex Racing Stables cars both failed in the 3rd hour, leaving the third car, driven by Kerguen and Franc who gained places up to ninth position as they entered the final hour, but could not restart the engine after their final scheduled pit stop. The DB4GT Zagato’s were successful around all the home circuits winning at Silverstone, Aintree, Goodwood and Brands Hatch.
