The metro is a supermini car that was produced in the UK until 1998. Introduced by Austin in 1980 as the mini Metro this car was intended to compliment and eventually replace the BMC Mini. The development of the Metro took some time and the initial design received poor feedback and a last minute redesign was ordered meaning the metro wasn’t released until 1980. Luckily this redesign was a hit with buyers and the Metro enjoyed a long production run. The MG Version of the Metro was named “Car of the Year” in 1983 by What Car Magazine.
