The Sunbeam 1000 HP, nicknamed Mystery or The Slug, was a speed record car built in 1926 by the British Sunbeam Car Company of Wolverhampton. It was the first car to exceed 200 miles per hour.
Designed by Jack Irving, the car was nicknamed "Slug" due to its distinctive aerodynamic design. The body completely enclosed the car, featuring a rounded nose and a long, tapered, descending tail.
It was equipped with two V12 Sunbeam Matabele engines, previously used in speedboats. Despite the name "1000 HP," the actual power of each engine was estimated to be just over 450 HP, giving a total power of about 900 HP.
