BRK73A - 1948 OLDSMOBILE 98 CONVERTIBLE

BROOKLIN COLLECTORS CLUB

For their 2001 club model the B.C.C. selected the Stardust Oldsmobile. The model is a 1948 Oldsmobile Futuramic 98 Convertible. It is a major rework of the 1949 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe. The Stardust name derives from the American songwriter, pianist and actor, Hoagy Carmichael who once owned a 1948 Oldsmobile 98 convertible. Hoagland Howard Carmichael was born in 1899 and died in 1981. He practiced law for a while before turning to song writing. He is known for his hit, "Stardust", written in 1929. Some other of his best known songs are "Old Buttermilk Sky", "Georgia on my Mind", "Lazy Bones", "Skylark" and "I Get Along without You Very Well". Later in his career Carmichael turned to acting in films which include "To Have and Have Not" in 1940 and "The Best Years of Our Lives" in 1946. In that Oscar winning movie he played Butch, the proprietor of Butch’s Place. The B.C.C. model is in a grey blue color with two-tone interior, has "B.C.C. Special 2001" cast into the baseplate and includes an Omen figure of Hoagy Carmichael. 250 pieces were produced.
